Russia Warns of “Consequences” Following U.S. led Missile Strike

Friday night, President Trump ordered a missile strike on Syrian chemical weapon bases. This missile attack was orchestrated by the United States, Great Britain, and France following a chemical weapons attack by the Syrian government on its own constituents. For days President Trump talked about a possible response in Syria saying “nothing is off the table”. Immediately following the missile attack, Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. tweeted, “Statement by the Ambassador Antonov on the strikes on #Syria: A pre-designed scenario is being implemented. Again, we are being threatened. We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences. All responsibility for them rests with Washington, London and Paris”.

Immediately following the Missile attack, President Trump tweeted: "A perfectly executed strike last night. Thank you to France and the United Kingdom for their wisdom and the power of their fine Military. Could not have had a better result. Mission Accomplished!"

Following the U.S. led airstrike, the Russians jumped to the defense of the Syrian government verbally. Russia is currently a strong ally of the President of Syria Bashar al-Assad and plans to inflict consequences. This missile attack has sped up tensions between the White House and Moscow. Russia has been warning the U.S. about retaliation for a few days following the chemical attack and blamed the attack on Syrian rebels.

Following the airstrike, a top Russian official compared Trump to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler and was citing saying Trump, “can be called Adolf Hitler No. 2 of our time — because you see, he even chose the time that Hitler attacked the Soviet Union” ( via the Associated Press).

The Russian warnings of retaliation following the U.S. led airstrike is raising concerns over a possible war breaking out in the middle east yet again. The catalyst for WWI was more inconsequential.
