Tea Party Conservative Chris McDaniel Announces Senate Run
Chris McDaniel announced he will be running for Senate in dramatic fashion just two days before the deadline to file. He must face the Republican incumbent in the primary election on June 5th of this year.
McDaniel is a sitting state senator in a southern part of Mississippi and he ran for federal Senate as a tea party member in 2014. Chris is quoted as calling his opponent “one of the most liberal Republican members of Congress.”
As a Republican, one must appreciate the track record of the incumbent Roger Wicker. Other than not believing that the Earth’s climate can change, Wicker is a strong proponent of the 2nd amendment and believes it is time to overturn Roe v. Wade.
When it comes to receiving federal funding, Roger Wicker is first in line amongst his fellow politicians to secure federal dollars for his home state Mississippi. He worked to ensure federal flood insurance policies also covered wind damage from hurricanes.
Wicker also worked on a bipartisan effort to introduce new regulations pertaining to hunting, fishing, and recreation. Three years after taking office, then President Barack Obama announced his intent to nominate Wicker as representative of the United States to the Sixty-fifth Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
The man of the hour, Chris McDaniel, worked on a piece of legislation to inhibit the government’s ability to seize private land from individuals through eminent domain. The bill was sadly vetoed by Mississippi’s Republican governor. Chris also believes the federal government should not be funding abortions or birth control.
The race will be tight as the Republican party works to find its base and determine what is most important for citizens of the United States.
