London Murder Rate Overtakes NYC; Here’s Why

London's murder rate has exceeded that of New York City for the first time in history, according to recently released crime statistics. The news comes amid growing concerns about knife violence in the city, which has grown by a staggering 21% in just one year.

February was the first month in recorded history that the capital of the UK's murder rate was higher than the Big Apple, with 16 murders to 15 respectively. London is on pace to exceed New York's murder rate in March as well, with 22 reported murders so far. In the last 19 days alone there have been 12 murders, and 10 of those were stabbings. Last year there was a total of 80 fatal stabbings in the capital - the most in almost a decade. And official figures show that 2017 was the worst year for knife deaths among young people since at least 2002. Forty-six people aged 25 or under were stabbed to death in London, up by 21 compared with the previous year

Blame is being thrown everywhere

London's liberal mayor Sadiq Khan is blaming the conservative governments for a reduction in spending on police forces. “Following massive government cuts to police forces and preventative services over the course of nearly eight years, crime is rising across the country, particularly violent crime such as knife crime and robbery,” Khan said. The mayor has also called for an increase in stop and search tactics, a practice he actively campaigned against during his mayoral election run.

The Metropolitan Police commissioner, Cressida Dick, said last year that London’s crime wave was being driven by a “core group of young offenders” repeatedly committing assault and robbery “with relative impunity”, pointing to the so-called "postcode wars", divisions between rival gangs brutally enforced across the capital, with victims unknowingly crossing invisible borders between postcodes or even smaller areas of specific streets or housing estates.

Public sentiment is that a major contributing factor is mass immigration. A recent poll of 28 countries from the EU showed that the rapid population growth of Muslims in Europe an area of particular concern for Europeans, with 70 percent of the people believing that a growing Muslim presence is a problem and a mere 8 percent saying it is no threat at all. The majority of pollsters across the board believe that the influx of immigrants into their respective countries will increase both the crime rate and the threat of terrorism.

US President Donald Trump had tweeted last year about the rise in crime in the UK amid the spread of Radical Islamic terror.

The crime victims themselves paint the picture in more detail. More than half of the stabbing victims in recent weeks have been Somali, with the victim's families blaming immigrant gangs. Fowsiya Abdi has lost two children in the violence so far. She claims that her son Sadiq Adan Mohamed had been targeted by a gang armed with a knife and gun two months before his murder just this last Tuesday night. "Young Somali boys are being slaughtered just because they are Somali. What is giving these boys confidence to walk around with massive knives that are used for slaughtering cattle? It's because they can get away with it."

The news comes amid calls in the US by Liberals to implement tougher gun restrictions, or outright ban the Second Amendment, the right of citizens to bear arms as enumerated in the Bill of Rights. Liberals suggest that in order to reduce crime, firearms must be restricted, but here is yet more evidence that even with some of the toughest gun control laws in the world you can still have rising crime rates. The problem is never with the weapon of choice itself, but with a lack of law enforcement leaving criminal activity unchecked. Look at how law enforcement repeatedly dropped the ball with the Parkland shooter and honestly ask yourself if the problem is with the weapon or with the people?
